There are estimated about 1,000 Africa students in Taiwan for studying, some of them apply for the scholarship and come back to work in the government, some of them are not. They mostly majored in Agriculture, civil engineering and medical. As I know, there are Swaziland, South Africa and Burkina Faso.
Sam, 30 years old, came from Swaziland and studied in NPUST and majored in Civil Engineering for PHD. He also finish his master degree here two years ago. He is very talkative and well-fit, because he usually goes to school gym to practice. He plan to finish his PHD within 32 years old and come back to Swaziland. Because he studies by his own and no support from scholarship from his country, he need to be hurry according to his financial status. 32 years old to finish PHD is not a simple task even in Taiwan, it’s only few people could achieve it. When he finish the task, I believe he will build a very competitive advantage by his own no matter where he is in Taiwan or Swaziland. He learns the Chinese in one semester and speaks a little Chinese with Taiwan people. Not to mention his English and mother language.
During the conversation, I know he need to take at least 20 hours flight to Taiwan and study by his own, it’s not an easy task and he plan to finish his PHD in 1 and half year. Best wishes and good luck to him.
Different countries have different thinking and variety cultures, drinking habits. Continuing to drink coffee with foreigners is a really excellent experience for me.
